How are points awarded in the new SRX stock car series?
By Asher Fair
SRX got the inaugural six-race 2021 season underway on Saturday night at Stafford Speedway. How are points awarded in these new events?
The Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) stock car series saw its first race run on Saturday night at Stafford Speedway, and it was local driver Doug Coby, a six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion, who took the checkered flag.
Coby led 80 of the 100 laps around the four-turn, 0.5-mile (0.805-kilometer) oval in Stafford Springs, Connecticut behind the wheel of his #10 car ahead of Greg Biffle in second place and Tony Stewart in third.
One race into the inaugural six-race season, Coby leads the point standings with 44 points ahead of Stewart with 36 and Biffle with 35.
But just how are points awarded in these races?

Interestingly, Coby and Biffle are the two non-full-time drivers who competed in this 12-car race, making Stewart the leader among the 10 full-time drivers (he leads Biffle anyway based on the point system, despite finishing one spot lower in the feature race).
Coby isn’t scheduled to return to the series this year while Biffle is set to make his only other start of the season in the season’s penultimate race at Slinger Speedway on Saturday, July 10.
There are two 15-minute heat races ahead of the 100-lap main event. Points are awarded after the heat races as well as after the main event.
After the first heat race, points are awarded, and the field is inverted to set the starting lineup for the second. Points are awarded in the same manner after the second (see below).
- 1st place – 12 points
- 2nd place – 11 points
- 3rd place – 10 points
- 4th place – 9 points
- 5th place – 8 points
- 6th place – 7 points
- 7th place – 6 points
- 8th place – 5 points
- 9th place – 4 points
- 10th place – 3 points
- 11th place – 2 points
- 12th place – 1 point
The results of the second heat race set the starting lineup for the 100-lap main event, and after those 100 laps (or more, depending on whether or not there are attempt(s) at a green-white-checkered finish), more points are awarded.
Except for the win, which pays 25 points, the point totals from the heat races are doubled for each position in the main event (see below).
- 1st place – 25 points
- 2nd place – 22 points
- 3rd place – 20 points
