Multiple entities have now mistaken Kurt Busch for younger brother Kyle, despite the fact that both have competed in the NASCAR Cup Series since the 2000s.

Kyle Busch has won 59 races in his NASCAR Cup Series career, good for ninth on the all-time list, and he has won at least one race in 17 consecutive seasons, a streak that is one shy of the great Richard Petty’s all-time record.

He has also won two championships, something that only 15 other drivers have done. His playoff streak currently sits at nine consecutive seasons, good for a second place tie among active drivers.

But for some reason, it seems that many are forgetting that he isn’t the only Busch competing at stock car racing’s highest level.

Yes, he also has an older brother named Kurt, who has made quite a name for himself in the Cup Series. In fact, he was a champion even before Kyle was a winner.

Kurt won the 2004 title, the first of the playoff era, and has 33 career victories, including at least one in each of the last eight seasons. Like Kyle, he is also on a nine-year playoff streak, trailing only Kevin Harvick (12).

However, multiple times in the last few weeks, Kurt has been mistaken for Kyle.

First, it was announced at the end of August that Kurt is set to join 23XI Racing as their second driver alongside Bubba Wallace for the 2022 season.

But ESPN reported that it was Kyle set to join the Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan-owned team.

Kyle had some fun with that mistake.

Now skip ahead a couple weeks.

As a nod to the inaugural Cup Series race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in mid-August, streets around the race track were given honorary driver names, kind of like what is done annually for the Indy 500.

When the street signs were no longer needed following the race weekend, they sent “KYLE BUSCH ST” to Chip Ganassi Racing.

It just so happens that Kyle drives for Joe Gibbs Racing, and it is actually Kurt who competes for Chip Ganassi Racing.

And as expected, Kyle had some fun with this very familiar error.
