The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series silly season has been a crazy one, and there is still a lot left unconfirmed. Here are the three biggest driver changes for 2022 thus far.

With the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season marking the introduction of the Next Gen car, it never looked like this year’s silly season would be anything shy of crazy. So far, it has lived up to the hype.

Numerous drivers have signed contracts to compete for new teams, several teams have announced plans to increase their commitment as far as the Cup Series schedule is concerned, multiple teams have purchased charters from other teams, and multiple teams have confirmed expansion.

While there are still several things yet to be confirmed, let’s take a look at the top three confirmed driver changes for 2022 thus far.

Top driver changes for 2022: No. 3 – Ross Chastain to Trackhouse

Trackhouse Racing Team are one of the two new one-car teams in 2021 that have confirmed expansion plans for 2022, and how they went about it was not like many expected them to.

They currently run one car for Daniel Suarez using a charter leased to them by Spire Motorsports. But Spire Motorsports solid that charter to Kaulig Racing for next year.

So Trackhouse Racing Team announced that they will be acquiring the entire Chip Ganassi Racing operation after the 2021 season, including their two charters. Suarez is set to continue driving the #99 Chevrolet, and Ross Chastain, one of Chip Ganassi Racing’s current two drivers, is set to drive alongside him in the #1 Chevrolet.

There were some interesting debates about whether Chastain or current teammate Kurt Busch would get that second seat. The addition of Chastain gives the Justin Marks and Pitbull-owned team a nice young duo with whom they can move forward for hopefully many years.
