With rain having postponed the round of 12 NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway, take a look at who the favorites are.

Rain on Sunday afternoon caused the round of 12 NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway, the YellaWood 500, to be postponed to Monday afternoon.

This race became the third race to be postponed in the last five visits to the four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) high-banked oval in Lincoln, Alabama going back to October 2019.

Talladega betting prediction

Without getting too much into this section like we did last week when the initial odds were released, there are a few things to think about regarding where the odds stand now.

Any time a race favorite has odds as long as +850, those odds are hard to ignore. Favorites are usually listed somewhere between +200 and +400, so this opens up the door to put money on quite a few drivers and avoid losing money as long as one of them wins.

As a random example, if you put $100 on Denny Hamlin at +850, $100 on Chase Elliott at +1000, $100 on Kyle Busch at +1400 and $100 on Alex Bowman at +1800, you are guaranteed to profit between $450 and $1400 as long as one of them wins.

However, this may not be too smart of a strategy for this particular race.

The reason the odds are like this is because of the “wild card” element of superspeedway racing, and that element has been on full display throughout the weekend, with Tate Fogleman securing his first career Truck Series victory and Brandon Brown securing his first career Xfinity Series victory.

Neither one of those two drivers is a playoff driver in his respective series.

With bad weather potentially becoming a factor as well, don’t be surprised if another upset winner emerges this afternoon. Among drivers no longer in championship contention, Aric Almirola is the favorite at +1800. Among the drivers who did not qualify for the playoffs, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Austin Dillon are co-favorites at +2500. Among drivers with no career wins, Tyler Reddick is the favorite at +2500.

A good sleeper pick could be Michael McDowell at +5000. McDowell won the opening superspeedway race of the season, the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, back in mid-February, and he finished in third place at Talladega Superspeedway in late April.
