The starting lineup for the Turkish Grand Prix, the 16th race on the 2021 Formula 1 schedule, is set following Saturday’s qualifying session.

After a week off, Formula 1 is back in action this weekend for the Turkish Grand Prix, the 16th of 22 on this year’s calendar.

This race, which was a late addition to last year’s schedule as a result of COVID-19-related restrictions canceling other events, almost didn’t make it onto this year’s schedule, and the date was shifted around a number of times due to such restriction — and in come cases, the effects of those restrictions on other events.

Where is the Turkish Grand Prix?

The Turkish Grand Prix is a 58-lap race around the 14-turn, 3.317-mile (5.338-kilometer) Intercity Istanbul Park road course in Tuzla, Istanbul, Turkey, a race won by Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton last year.

Turkey broadcast information

ESPN is set to broadcast the Turkish Grand Prix live from Intercity Istanbul Park beginning at 8:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, October 10. Be sure to start your free trial of FuboTV today if you have not already done so!

Who is on pole in Turkey?

Hamilton took the pole position for the Turkish Grand Prix by topping the speed chart in the third and final round of knockout qualifying for the race. He topped the speed chart in this session by recording a lap at 82.868 seconds (144.099 miles per hour).

However, he is set to take a 10-place grid penalty after Mercedes changed his engine, so he is set to start in 11th place. Teammate Valtteri Bottas is set to inherit the pole position and line up alongside Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in second place.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr., who prevented McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo from being one of the 15 drivers to advance to the second of three rounds of qualifying, did not partake in that second round as a result of the fact that, due to an engine change, he is set to start at the back anyway.

Turkey betting prediction

Any time Lewis Hamilton is listed at +325, it’s almost too good to pass up, even if he is suffering a grid penalty. We saw him drive to the front from sixth place to win this race last year in poor conditions, and we’ve seen him win races from farther back than 11th place before.

Let’s also not forget that he has had the pace to beat all weekend and was the fastest driver in qualifying.

As for the top two, Max Verstappen hasn’t really justified this status as the favorite so far this weekend, but with Hamilton set to start nine places behind him, this could very well be his race to lose if he gets a good start and is able to pass Valtteri Bottas.

Plus, Verstappen wasn’t all that quick at Sochi Autodrom two weeks ago, yet he managed to finish in second place after starting all the way in the back.

But this could also be Bottas’s last ever chance to win a race, and he is in the best position to do it at a track where Mercedes have had the upper hand over Red Bull. Will he make his five-spin Turkish Grand Prix from 2020 a distant memory by taking his first checkered flag of 2021?
