NASCAR team sends subtle message about future plans
By Asher Fair
Rick Ware Racing sent a subtle message to fans on Friday on Twitter about their plans for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.
One of the key focal points during the opening stages of the NASCAR Cup Series offseason between the 2021 and 2022 seasons has been the charter market.
Several teams entered the offseason looking to buy or sell at least one charter for the 2022 season, and things seem to be falling into place.
Since the offseason began, there have not been any direct confirmations by teams regarding charters for next year, but the puzzle is coming together.
One key player in this year’s charter market is Rick Ware Racing.
Before the 2021 season ended, Rick Ware Racing had discussed the possibility of downsizing for the 2022 season and selling or leasing out at least one of their charters.
They ran four chartered entries in 2021: the #15 team, the #51 team, the #52 team and the #53 team. Notably, the #51 team is run using a charter from Richard Petty Motorsports and is classified as a Petty Ware Racing entry.
Multiple sources have stated that Rick Ware Racing will indeed be downsizing for the 2022 season and running just two cars, and it appears that the team have “confirmed” the same — but without officially announcing it.
This past Friday, there were 100 days remaining until the scheduled start of the 2022 season on Sunday, February 20.
So Rick Ware Racing posted the countdown, along with the car number logos for the #15 team and the #51 team.
But there was no sign of the #52 team or the #53 team.

While nothing has been officially announced, it is expected that one of the team’s charters is on its way to Spire Motorsports and the other is on its way to GMS Racing.
Spire Motorsports had been the rumored buyer of StarCom Racing’s charter, but 23XI Racing are reportedly set to acquire that one after StarCom Racing shut down following the 2021 season.
There are now just 96 days remaining until the 64th annual Daytona 500, and official word on Rick Ware Racing’s plans for the 2022 season is set to come in the near future, much like everything else pertaining to this crazy charter market.
