He shared a release titled “Joey Gase to drive for JGR in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2022”, which was a stroke of marketing genius to say the very least.

While many think of “JGR” as Toyota powerhouse Joe Gibbs Racing, Gase announced that he is set to start a new team, Joey Gase Racing.

The 28-year-old Cedar Rapids, Iowa native is set to compete behind the wheel of the #35 car throughout the 33-race 2022 season. In 249 career Xfinity Series starts, Gase has a top finish of fifth place at Talladega Superspeedway in May 2015.

The plan is for Joey Gase Racing to run full-time in 2022, though Gase himself will likely split time behind the wheel with other drivers, as he noted that he plans to compete in “most” of the races on next year’s schedule. Rick Bourgeois is slated to serve as the team general manager.

Gase also plans to continue competing in the Cup Series, where he has spent time during each of the last eight years. In 90 career starts in the series, he has a top 10 finish of 17th place at Talladega Superspeedway in October 2020.

The team currently have five cars and have bought the remaining cars and equipment of the former H2 Motorsports team from Shane Lee.
