The Formula 1 world championship odds have begun to shift ahead of this Sunday’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit.

The 2021 Formula 1 season is scheduled to come to an end in this Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, and the two world championship contenders, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, are tied atop the driver standings with 369.5 points after the first 21 races.

Verstappen owns the tiebreaker with nine wins to Hamilton’s eight, but Hamilton is riding a three-race winning streak heading into the 22nd and final race on the schedule.

When the final world championship odds were revealed by WynnBET following this past Sunday’s chaotic Saudi Arabian Grand Prix at Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Hamilton was listed as the favorite at -240, meaning that a $240 winning bet would win $100, paying a total of $340.

Verstappen was listed as the underdog at +165, meaning that a $100 winning bet would win $165, paying a total of $265.

Shortly thereafter, Hamilton’s odds moved to -230, making him slightly less of a favorite, and Verstappen’s odds moved to +155, making him slightly less of an underdog.

Now those odds have shifted further in favor of Verstappen. While Verstappen is still listed as the underdog at +155, Hamilton is now listed as the favorite at -215.

Naturally, the odds are designed so that the sportsbooks end up making money either way; otherwise, a +155 underdog would imply a -155 favorite, and a -215 favorite would imply a +215 underdog — two scenarios that will absolutely never happen.

So the odds imply that Hamilton has a 68.25% chance to win the world championship while Verstappen has a 39.22% chance to do so. Naturally, this adds up to more than 100% (107.47% to be exact; again, this is by design).

Scaled to 100%, the new odds imply that Hamilton has a 63.51% chance to win the world championship, while Verstappen has a 36.49% chance to do so.
