NASCAR: The 3 cars still missing drivers for 2022

As we near the end of the offseason, there are still three chartered entries that need additional drivers throughout the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.

The start of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season is right around the corner. The season is unofficially scheduled to get underway this Sunday, February 6 with the Busch Light Clash exhibition race, which is set to be contested at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the first time in its 44-year history.

Then two Sundays later, the 64th annual Daytona 500, the first official race of the Gen 7 era, is set to kick off the 36-race season at Daytona International Speedway.

But not all of the 36 chartered entries have their driver lineups solidified yet. Of these 36 entries, 32 are set to have full-time drivers, and a 33rd is set to have three drivers throughout the year (#16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet – A.J. Allmendinger, Noah Gragson and Daniel Hemric).

The other three do have confirmed drivers, but not for the entire season. Here’s a look at the three cars that are still missing drivers for 2022.

NASCAR seats missing drivers: No. 1 – #15 Rick Ware Racing Ford

The #15 Rick Ware Racing Ford is one of only two Rick Ware Racing cars for the 2022 season after they downsized from four cars in 2021, selling one of their charters to Spire Motorsports and returning one of the others to Richard Petty Motorsports (now Petty GMS Motorsports following merger involving GMS Racing).

Though the team’s other entry, the #51 Ford, is set to have a full-time driver in Cody Ware, the #15 Ford is not. There have been four drivers confirmed behind the wheel of this car so far in 2022, including David Ragan (TBD number of races), Joey Hand (six races), Ryan Preece (two races) and Garrett Smithley (TBD number of races).

For reference, the #15 Ford had 10 drivers last year.
