NASCAR Growth and Engagement Advisor Alvin Kamara has been arrested in Las Vegas for battery resulting in substantial bodily harm.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, whom NASCAR named their Growth and Engagement Advisor last June, has been arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 26-year-old Atlanta, Georgia native was arrested on Sunday evening for battery resulting in substantial bodily harm, stemming from an incident that took place on Saturday at a Las Vegas nightclub, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

An investigation is still ongoing, and Kamara was taken into custody without further incident. He was booked in the Clark County Detention Center.

Kamara was in Las Vegas to compete in the NFL Pro Bowl at Allegiant Stadium, the home of the Las Vegas Raiders. He caught four passes for 23 yards in a losing effort for the NFC on Sunday afternoon prior to his arrest.

Over the last couple of seasons, Kamara has increased his level of involvement in NASCAR. He became a fan in 2020 when the drivers, namely Bubba Wallace, participated in racial justice activism, including the controversial ban of the Confederate battle flag from race tracks.

Wallace, a friend of Kamara from years back, went on to run a Black Lives Matter-themed car at Martinsville Speedway.

In February 2021, just months prior to his appointment as the sport’s official Growth and Engagement Advisor (or “Chief Engagement Officer”, as he refers to it), Kamara sponsored the #6 JD Motorsports Chevrolet of Ryan Vargas in the Xfinity Series race at the Daytona International Speedway road course.

Appearing on Vargas’s #6 Chevrolet was Big Squeezy, a Louisiana-based juice and smoothie chain owned by Kamara. The chain has locations in Baton Rouge, Hammond, Mandeville, and New Orleans.

The Growth and Engagement Advisor role was a role created by NASCAR for Kamara; his appointment made him the first individual to hold the position.

NASCAR has yet to release an official statement about Kamara’s arrest after wrapping up its own weekend at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the 2022 Cup Series season-opening Busch Light Clash exhibition race.
