Formula 2 drivers to watch: No. 3 – Dennis Hauger (Prema)

Currently the most talked-about talent on the Formula 2 grid despite being a rookie, Red Bull Junior Team driver Dennis Hauger made major strides in his second season of Formula 3 to earn his seat on the grid.

Finishing only 17th in the overall standings in the 2020 season, Hauger put it all together in 2021 to beat fellow rookie and Alpine-backed Jack Doohan by a 26-point margin.

Carrying on his partnership with Prema Powerteam from F3 to F2, Hauger finds himself in likely the best car on the F2 grid, despite the series’ claim to be a spec series, and will need to make an immediate impression in order to make Helmut Marko and Franz Tost consider his viability as a Formula 1 driver.

There will also be an inevitable direct comparison between Hauger’s rookie campaign and the domination by Oscar Piastri in his rookie season last year.

Hauger is also one of the first Norwegian drivers to make a tangible mark on the sport, as General Secretary Hallgeir Raknerud of the Norwegian Motorsport Association made clear that the organization would be applying for a super license on his behalf as soon as he is eligible.

With Yuki Tsunoda needing to make a statement against Pierre Gasly after an up and down rookie season last year in order to secure a drive for next season, Hauger simply needs to bide his time and establish himself atop the stables of talent within Red Bull’s youth ranks.
