At long last, NASCAR Growth and Engagement Advisor and New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is set to appear in court today.

The day after his February arrest in Las Vegas, Nevada for battery causing substantial bodily harm and conspiracy to commit battery, NASCAR Growth and Engagement Advisor and New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was released on $5,000 bond.

Three other individuals were arrested in connection with the disturbing incident, which took place at a nightclub the day before Kamara took part in the NFL Pro Bowl at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, February 6. The hearing for the four men was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 8.

However, shortly before the scheduled hearing date, Justice of the Peace Harmony Letizia rescheduled the hearing for Monday, April 25.

The reason for the change was the fact that a prosecutor acknowledged that video evidence and witness statements were still being provided to the lawyers of the four men involved.

Kamara, along with the other three individuals (Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Chris Lammons, Darrin Young, and Percy Harris) all intend to plead not guilty, according to statements from their attorneys.

As of today, April 25, that April 25 date has not changed.

In the state of Nevada, battery resulting in substantial bodily harm is classified as a felony. So if Kamara ends up being convicted, he would be required to pay a $10,000 fine, and he would also risk spending between one and five years in prison.

But how does the 26-year-old Atlanta, Georgia native’s situation have anything to do with NASCAR?

Kamara became the first ever NASCAR Growth and Engagement Advisor during the 2021 season. It was a role that had not previously existed in the sport, and it was one which was created with him in mind.

The Pro Bowl running back became interested in the sport during the 2020 season, specifically after several drivers, including his close friend Bubba Wallace, took part in various acts of social justice.

Wallace’s actions led to the ban of the Confederate battle flag from race tracks, and he also ran a “Black Lives Matter” paint scheme on his #43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet in the June 2020 race at Martinsville Speedway.

Before becoming the Growth and Engagement Advisor last June, Kamara upped his commitment to the sport and went from being a fan to becoming a sponsor.

His juice and smoothie chain, The Big Squeezy, appeared on Ryan Vargas’s #6 JD Motorsports Chevrolet as the primary sponsor for the race at the Daytona International Speedway road course in February 2021.

There have been some questions about why NASCAR has not made a single comment on the matter, given how their relationship with Kamara has grown in recent years.

And for some reason, the picture above, featuring an “Alvin Kamara, Growth and Engagement Advisor” NASCAR business card, had been listed by Twitter as “potentially sensitive content”.

Notably, the Saints themselves have not commented about the matter either, and they are Kamara’s official employer. Perhaps this will change following the court date, provided it doesn’t get postponed once again.
