Keep tabs on Saturday’s qualifying session for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series throwback race, the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway.

NASCAR throwback weekend is back at Darlington Raceway, and the Goodyear 400 Cup Series race is set to wrap up the weekend tomorrow afternoon.

This race is the first of two races scheduled at the four-turn, 1.366-mile (2.198-kilometer) egg-shaped oval in Darlington, South Carolina this year. The second is the playoff opener, which is scheduled to take place in early September.

For the first time since August 2019, qualifying is set to take place at “The Track Too Tough to Tame”. None of the three races there, including two COVID-19 replacement events, in 2020 featured qualifying, and neither did the two races there last year.

The new single-car qualifying format introduced for 2022 is set to be used, with drivers split into two groups based on the results of the most recent race at Dover Motor Speedway. The order was determined by the qualifying formula.

Each driver is set to make a single-lap attempt in the first round, and the top five drivers in each group are set to do so again in the second round in the battle for the pole position.
