Keep tabs on Saturday’s qualifying session for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the Ambetter 301.

The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season’s 20th race, the Ambetter 301, is scheduled to take place at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this Sunday afternoon.

For the first time since 2019, qualifying is set to take place at the four-turn, 1.058-mile (1.703-kilometer) oval in Loudon, New Hampshire.

Qualifying was canceled for most races in 2020 and 2021, but it returned in 2022, and it returned with a new format for most races, including this Sunday’s 301-lap event.

Like the case has been for most races this season, drivers are split up into two groups for this weekend’s qualifying session, based on the results of the most recent race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The qualifying order is determined by the formula, the formula that has been used to determine the starting lineups in the absence of qualifying.

In this single-car qualifying session, each driver makes a single-lap qualifying run, and the fastest five drivers from both groups advance to the second round to battle for the pole position with another single-lap run.

The speeds from the second round determine the top 10 in the starting lineup, and the speeds from the first round, irrespective of group number, determine the rest of the starting lineup.
