Tony Stewart revealed on Monday that he has a “major announcement” coming on Tuesday, prompting all kinds of speculation from NASCAR fans.

Fresh off his NASCAR Cup Series team’s first win in nearly five months on Sunday at Michigan International Speedway, Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Tony Stewart told fans to “stay tuned” for a “major announcement”.

The NASCAR Hall of Famer shared a picture of himself with several of his old race cars and stated that this announcement would be made on Tuesday.

Nothing more was specified.

Of course, this immediately led to all sorts of speculation.

Many speculated that Stewart-Haas Racing will announce that Kyle Busch is set to drive for them next year. Busch is in a contract year at Joe Gibbs Racing, and the two sides haven’t been able to get a deal done with longtime partner M&M’s set to leave the #18 Toyota at the end of the year.

Busch, who could still very well be back with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2023, has recently admitted that he has had talks with other teams, and with Toyota having just one other team in the Cup Series, these other teams naturally must include at least one team aligned with another manufacturer. Is he in talks with Stewart’s Ford organization?

Another common suggestion is that Stewart could be announcing a one-off Xfinity Series appearance, like he was set to make in 2020 before the pandemic changed his plans.

Others believe that this announcement will have nothing to do with the Cup Series or even NASCAR, considering the fact that he led off by saying “shifting gears”.

Stewart notably wasn’t specifically addressing NASCAR fans, as he also added hashtags for IndyCar, World of Outlaws, and SRX (Superstar Racing Experience).

Could he be starting an IndyCar team, or perhaps completing a long-rumored acquisition of A.J. Foyt Enterprises? Could the announcement have something to do with his personal car collection? Is it SRX-related or World of Outlaws-related?

Is it something totally unrelated to any of these suggestions, considering the fact that he wasn’t addressing anybody other than “fans” in general?
