Possible Mick Schumacher 2023 landing spots: No. 4 – Williams

Williams seems like the least attractive for Mick Schumacher on the surface, with the Grove-based team fielding what is easily the slowest car on the grid. But it could make a ton of sense if he does indeed not only leave Haas but Ferrari as a whole.

As referenced on the AlphaTauri slide, should Schumacher leave the Ferrari development program, he could have the opportunity to align himself with another manufacturer, and that could very well include Mercedes.

A move to Williams could then put in in the front of Toto Wolff’s mind when it comes time to replace seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, especially if he fares well against a well-respected Alexander Albon, who recently inked a contract extension with the team amid all of the silly season drama.

There is no telling when Hamilton might retire, but it’s not like Schumacher is next on anybody else’s list for a top ride anyway. We also know his history of struggling at first but making major improvements as time goes on, so this would be more of a long-term move.

We recently saw Mercedes junior George Russell spend three years with Williams before getting called up to replace Valtteri Bottas at the Silver Arrows. Could we see something similar happen with Schumacher, whose seven-time world champion father Michael played a key role in making Mercedes the powerhouse they’ve been for the last several years?
