Ty Gibbs is set to drop to the rear of the field before Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway, the YellaWood 500.

23XI Racing’s Ty Gibbs advanced to the second round of Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series round of 12 playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway, but he did not record a lap time in that round.

Failure to post a lap time in this round meant that Gibbs had qualified in 10th place for this 188-lap race around the four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) high-banked Lincon, Alabama oval behind the wheel of his #23 Toyota, but he is actually set to start much farther back.

As a result of repairs to an oil leak, Gibbs is set to drop to the rear end of the field ahead of the green flag.

He is set to drop to the tail end of the outside lane, meaning he is set to start the race in 36th place. Two other drivers are also set to be sent to the rear of the field, including teammate Bubba Wallace and Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick.

Wallace is set to drop from 27th place to the tail end of the inside lane (37th) behind the wheel of his #45 Toyota after an engine change stemming from an overheating issue.

Reddick is set to drop from eighth place to the tail end of the outside lane (34th, still ahead of Gibbs) behind the wheel of his #8 Chevrolet after his splitter sustained damage in a pit road incident with a NASCAR issue during qualifying.
