Another driver is set to miss this coming Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval with an injury.

Rick Ware Racing’s Cody Ware is set to miss this Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, making him the third full-time driver sidelined due to an injury.

23XI Racing’s Kurt Busch and Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman remain out as they continue to recover from concussion-like symptoms suffered in single-car wrecks at Pocono Raceway in July and Texas Motor Speedway in September, respectively. Ty Gibbs continues to fill in for Busch while Noah Gragson continues to fill in for Alex Bowman.

As for Ware, his absence from this 109-lap Bank of America Roval 400 at the 17-turn, 2.28-mile (3.669-kilometer) Concord, North Carolina road course comes after a nasty crash at Texas Motor Speedway two Sundays ago.

The incident left Ware on crutches and with a boot on his right foot.

The 26-year-old Greensboro, North Carolina native was still able to pilot the #51 Ford in this past Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway.

But on a road course featuring several left-hand and right-hand turns, things would be a bit more challenging for Ware than they were for him on an oval, so he has opted to step aside.

Set to fill in behind the wheel of the #51 Ford is J.J. Yeley, who has made 14 starts behind the wheel of Rick Ware Racing’s other car, the #15 Ford, this season.

Set to drive the #15 Ford in Sunday’s race is Joey Hand, who also drove the car in the season’s first five road course races. Hand made his Cup Series debut at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval last October.
