Mick Schumacher is facing an uncertain future at Haas beyond the conclusion of the 2022 Formula 1 season. Who could replace him?

Mick Schumacher’s contract with Haas is set to expire at the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season, and it is seen as increasingly unlikely that he will be back with the sport’s lone American team in 2023.

Haas have stated that they won’t necessarily be waiting for Ferrari to make a decision on who to pair with Kevin Magnussen, who is already under contract through 2023, next year, but with Schumacher’s Ferrari ties in doubt beyond 2022, that probably doesn’t bode too well for him.

Who will replace the 23-year-old German if his Haas stint indeed only lasts for two seasons?

Possible Mick Schumacher replacements: No. 1 – Antonio Giovinazzi

Antonio Giovinazzi was considered the obvious option here, given his ties to Ferrari and his role as the team’s reserve driver. He has also served as a test driver for Haas this year and is apparently keen to return to Formula 1 in 2023 after losing his Alfa Romeo seat to Guanyu Zhou after three seasons following the 2021 campaign.

Of course, his crash for Haas during FP1 at Circuit of the America probably doesn’t bode too well for his chances.

Giovinazzi spent the 2021-2022 season competing for Dragon/Penske Autosport in Formula E, but it was a disappointing season for the 28-year-old Italian. He was the lone full-time driver who failed to score a point (top 10 finish) and he never finished in the top 15.

While he scored only three points in his final season with Alfa Romeo in 2021, he finished all but one of the 22 races on the schedule and only finished outside of the top 15 once. He also had four 11th place finishes which easily could have netted him a point for 10th.
