There is no clear favorite to win the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 on Sunday at Daytona International Speedway.

After more than three months, the offseason between the 2022 and 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season is finally set to reach its conclusion this weekend.

The 65th annual Daytona 500 is scheduled to kick off the 36-race 2023 campaign this Sunday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway.

There is no clear favorite to win this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) high-banked Daytona Beach, Florida oval. The odds at FanDuel Sportsbook paint one clear picture: this year’s running of the Great American Race is wide open.

Typical favorites for Cup Series races tend to be in the +400 to +600 (bet $100 to win $400/$600) range. The Daytona 500 favorite, ahead of qualifying, is Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney, and he is listed at +1200. He is one of nine drivers listed between +1200 and +2000.

Superspeedway races are typically seen as “wild card” races, so the lack of a clear favorite isn’t surprising. The superspeedway racing we saw last year in the first year of the Next Gen car backs that up.

The 36 drivers of chartered entries are all locked into the 40-car field, while the six drivers of the non-chartered entries must battle for the final four spots. Two will lock in via the single-car qualifying session and another two will lock in via the Bluegreen Vacations Duels.
