When Trackhouse Racing Team run PROJECT91 for the first time in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season, who will be their third driver?

PROJECT91 was announced by Trackhouse Racing Team back in May 2022 as a way to give “renowned international racing drivers” the opportunity to compete in select NASCAR Cup Series races.

The initiative made its debut at Watkins Glen International in August, when 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen made his Cup Series debut behind the wheel of the No. 91 Chevrolet.

Many believed that Trackhouse Racing Team were going to open up the 2023 season with PROJET91’s second ever appearance and first in the Daytona 500.

But Marks announced that they would be running only their two full-time entries for Ross Chastain (No. 1 Chevrolet) and Daniel Suarez (No. 99 Chevrolet) and that they would instead be focusing more on the road course races for PROJECT91.

The first of five road course races (six if you include the street course race in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, July 2) on this year’s schedule is coming up later this month at Circuit of the Americas (Sunday, March 26).

Trackhouse Racing Team are expected to field their PROJECT91 entry for the first time in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season in this event.

According to Sports Business Journal‘s Adam Stern, no driver has been confirmed to drive the No. 91 Chevrolet for this event, but Raikkonen has reportedly been told by Marks that he can drive the car if he wants to — and not just in this race, but in any races the car is entered.

Raikkonen was running in the top 10 at Watkins Glen International last year before he was ultimately involved in a wreck.

The season’s other four road course races are scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 11 at Sonoma Raceway; Sunday, August 13 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway; Sunday, August 20 at Watkins Glen International; and Sunday, October 8 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval.
