Live Fast Motorsports’ confirmation of Anthony Alfredo for the race at Richmond Raceway solidifies a slightly modified approach for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Live Fast Motorsports announced on Thursday that Anthony Alfredo is set to drive the No. 78 Chevrolet in two upcoming races on the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series schedule, including the race at Richmond Raceway on Sunday, April 2.

The location of the 23-year-old Ridgefield, Connecticut’s second start with the B.J. McLeod and Matt Tifft-owned team hasn’t yet been announced.

Alfredo, who last competed in the Cup Series in 2021, is currently competing full-time for B.J. McLeod Motorsports in the Xfinity Series. He competed full-time in the series for Our Motorsports last year after losing his Cup Series ride with Front Row Motorsports after just one season.

The announcement confirms an under-the-radar change in Live Fast Motorsports’ NASCAR Cup Series approach.

The move solidifies the fact that McLeod is no longer the team’s full-time oval driver. Since Live Fast Motorsports entered the Cup Series in 2021, McLeod has driven in all of the oval races, except for the dirt races at Bristol Motor Speedway.

While he has opened the 2023 season with three straight starts at the oval tracks of Daytona International Speedway, Auto Club Speedway, and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, that will no longer be the case, though he is expected to remain the team’s primary oval driver moving forward.

The team had previously announced that Josh Bilicki is set to drive the No. 78 Chevrolet in select races, and he too is likely to compete in an oval race, that being the race at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, August 6.

Bilicki is set to make his first start of the year a week before Alfredo is scheduled to make his, as he is lined up to compete in the race at Circuit of the Americas on Sunday, March 26.

McLeod, Alfredo, and Bilicki are the only three drivers confirmed in Live Fast Motorsports’ 2023 lineup thus far.
