Full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe is set to undergo surgery on a finger he broke in a dirt race on Thursday.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe was involved in an accident during a dirt race on Thursday which left him with a broken middle finger on his left hand.

The injury did not keep him from competing in Saturday night’s NASCAR Truck Series dirt race at Bristol Motor Speedway, which he finished in seventh place behind the wheel of the No. 22 Ford for AM Racing, and it won’t keep him from competing in Sunday evening’s Cup Series dirt race at the track, which he is set to start in 14th behind the wheel of the No. 14 Ford.

But following tonight’s 250-lap Food City Dirt Race around the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) Bristol, Tennessee oval, Briscoe is set to have surgery.

The surgery, which he is set to undergo early this coming week, is not expected to sideline Chase Briscoe from any NASCAR Cup Series action.

Briscoe has not missed any races since making his series debut at the start of the 2021 season.

Through seven races on the 36-race 2023 schedule, Briscoe sits in 21st place in the point standings with a top finish of seventh at Phoenix Raceway, the track where he earned his first career victory last March.

Briscoe’s finger surgery will mark the second time that a Cup Series driver named Chase has undergone surgery early in the 2023 season, with Chase Elliott having undergone a three-hour operation after fracturing his left tibia in a Colorado snowboarding accident last month. Elliott remains sidelined amid his recovery and has not competed since late February.
