Formula 1: 3 possible replacements for Kevin Magnussen in 2024
We have reached a crucial point in the 2023 Formula 1 season during which teams are looking to finalize their driver lineups for 2024.
Among Formula 1 teams still in the process of determining their driver duos for 2024 season is Haas. Despite recent reports claiming that team principal Guenther Steiner is leaning towards bringing back both Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen, the latter’s performance may not warrant a reason to retain him.
If Haas were to let go of Danish driver for a second time, there would be a number of suitable candidates who could meet the preliminary expectations from Steiner, provided they remain available.
Here are three possible replacements for Magnussen in 2024.
Kevin Magnussen Formula 1 replacements: No. 1 – Daniel Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo seems like the most obvious potential choice for Haas, as the Aussie’s future beyond this season is still unclear. After replacing Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri right before the summer break, Ricciardo has the rest of the season to prove that he is still one of the 20 best drivers in the world.
Additionally, the 34-year-old also possesses the qualities Steiner seeks in a driver: experience and proven skill. This is quite the turnaround after Haas opted for a young driver pair in 2021 with Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin. As a race winner capable of bringing out the best in the car, Ricciardo is the opposite.
Given that the sample size to judge his current level is rather small, since he has only competed in two races so far this season, his performance will closely be watched for the rest of the year. But an added incentive for Haas would be the money that would come with the presence of the Ricciardo, which would present a great opportunity for the team both on and off the track.
