Possible RLL drivers for 2024 IndyCar season: No. 2 – David Malukas

After two years with Dale Coyne Racing, David Malukas will be moving on to a new team in 2024, and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing could be a great fit. Much of his success this season has come on the oval tracks, where Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing have struggled.

On the flip side, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing would give him an opportunity to showcase his skills on road and street courses. The team’s bright spots so far this year have come at such tracks.

While Malukas hasn’t been particularly strong on non-oval courses during his first two seasons in IndyCar, he has shown that he can win on them. During his two years in Indy Lights, he tallied a total of 15 podium finishes on road and street circuits. A string of bad luck in the middle of the 2023 season has hampered what otherwise has been solid season.

His two years in IndyCar have been impressive so far, and there are signs that he is ready to compete for wins. Last year as a rookie, he outscored teammate and two-time Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato, and this year he has vastly overshadowed his rookie Dale Coyne Racing counterpart Sting Ray Robb.

A resurgent Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing would provide Malukas with an opportunity to win and stand on the podium more often. With the resources behind the three-car team, a season with as many struggles as 2024 is hard to envision.
