Entering the offseason between the 2026 and 2027 IndyCar seasons, just 18 of the 25 seats on next year's grid had confirmed drivers. Three two-car teams hadn't confirmed anything, while one three-car team still had a seat to fill.
That three-car team, Chip Ganassi Racing, filled that seat by announcing that it's Christian Lundgaard who is set to replace Scott Dixon behind the wheel of the No. 9 Honda, with Dixon on his way to the Arrow McLaren team where Lundgaard competed in each of the past two seasons.
Now one of those two-car teams has fully solidified their lineup, and they are the only team to confirm a full lineup overhaul for next year thus far.
A.J. Foyt Enterprises confirmed in September that Dennis Hauger, who spent his rookie season with Dale Coyne Racing, is set to replace Santino Ferrucci behind the wheel of the No. 14 Chevrolet. This week, they confirmed that Josh Pierson is set to replace Caio Collet behind the wheel of the No. 4 Chevrolet.
Pierson is the lone confirmed rookie on the 2027 grid thus far. Ferrucci spent four seasons with Foyt, while Collet only spent one.
Will any other teams enter 2027 with all-new driver lineups?
Dale Coyne Racing and Juncos Hollinger Racing are the only two teams left with vacancies to fill for 2027, and they both have both of their seats to fill. But the latter probably won't be completing a full lineup overhaul, as even with Sting Ray Robb not coming back, it's long been expected that they will confirm Rinus VeeKay's return for a second season in the No. 76 Chevrolet.
Dale Coyne Racing's future is less certain, other than the fact that they've already lost Hauger to A.J. Foyt Enterprises. It's entirely possible that Coyne could join Foyt as the only other team to complete a full lineup overhaul for 2027, but not if Romain Grosjean returns.
Other lineup changes for 2027 include Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing selling a charter to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, which are set to field the No. 24 Honda for Conor Daly in their first full season since 2012.
Mick Schumacher, RLL Racing's third driver in 2026, is set to move to Meyer Shank Racing as Felix Rosenqvist's replacement, albeit in the No. 66 Honda as Marcus Armstrong shifts to Rosenqvist's No. 60 Honda.
Rosenqvist moved to Arrow McLaren as Lundgaard's direct replacement behind the wheel of the No. 7 Chevrolet, while Dixon is set to replace Nolan Siegel behind the wheel of the No. 6 Chevrolet.
The streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, as they traditionally do, are scheduled to get the 2027 NTT IndyCar Series season underway on Sunday, March 7 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Live coverage of all 17 races on next year's schedule is set to be provided by Fox.
