After back-to-back NASCAR Cup Series qualifying sessions were canceled due to rain at Bristol Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway, Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin took the pole position for Sunday's South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Saturday's qualifying session.
Hamlin earned the pole position for this 267-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Las Vegas, Nevada oval by recording a top lap speed of 186.787 miles per hour in his No. 11 Toyota.
Teammate Ty Gibbs, whom Hamlin beat to the top spot by 0.017 seconds, is set to start beside him on the front row behind the wheel of his No. 54 Toyota.
