When Oliver Bearman made a last-minute substitution for Carlos Sainz in the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, he made a statement by finishing in P7. After receiving praise from Formula 1's best drivers, rumors immediately started to emerge that Bearman could be a future Ferrari driver.
While the British driver has been quite good at Haas from 2025 until now, Lewis Hamilton’s resurgence has put Ferrari in a very good place for the immediate future. And having recently extended Charles Leclerc, Fred Vasseur hopes to tie down the 41-year-old for at least one more season as well.
With this weekend's race being the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, it is always a special time for Ferrari and the Tifosi. As a result, rumors suggest that Hamilton’s extension will officially be announced during the weekend.
What does that do to Bearman?
Once viewed as a future Ferrari driver, watching both Leclerc and Hamilton sign for the future forces Bearman to reconsider his current status. The 21-year-old is certainly talented and should look to move to a team further up the midfield, but a move to Ferrari may no longer be feasible.
Hamilton’s extension could push Bearman to leave Haas sooner rather than later. However, so many drivers have already extended their contracts beyond 2026, especially those in the midfield, giving him very limited options.
Bearman's path toward making his next career move is to talk to teams as soon as the 2027 season starts. He should redirect his focus toward Aston Martin, Alpine, and potentially even Williams, depending on the status of Sainz.
While Haas have done quite well to open the new era of regulations, Bearman is ready to take a step forward in his career. His spot in Formula 1 is secure, and now he can take the opportunity to assess his options and make a move that takes him further up the grid.
