Formula 1 competed at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya back in June, but unlike in previous years, that race was not classified as the annual Spanish Grand Prix on the 2026 calendar.

This year's official Spanish Grand Prix is instead the inaugural race at the new Madring in Madrid, Spain.

Race number 14 of 23 on the 2026 schedule is set to be a 57-lap race around a street circuit that consists of 22 turns and measures 3.365 miles (5.415 kilometers) in length.

This past weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza was the first race all year (sprints included) that was not won from the front row, after an incredible drive from Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, who extended his lead in the world championship over teammate George Russell with a victory on home soil that was his F1-leading seventh of the year.

Antonelli won from 19th, ending what was an all-time F1 record streak of 18 consecutive races won from the front row. But just how much of an anomaly was that race? How crucial will Madrid's first qualifying session be, and will the recent trend of race winners coming from P1 or P2 on the grid continue in the new Spanish Grand Prix?
