With Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing set to sell one of their charters to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and retain both veteran Graham Rahal alongside Louis Foster, rookie Mick Schumacher was left without a ride for the 2027 NTT IndyCar Series season.
However, the 27-year-old German has no concerns, confirming that he plans to stay in IndyCar and that while nothing is signed, he knows his next destination.
"I don't have to look around," he said, according to Motorsport. "I know where I’m going to be. It's still the same [situation, in IndyCar]. Just continuing on those discussions and the plan is for sure to stay here."
Schumacher has said from the start that he wants to continue competing in IndyCar in 2027, and now he seems to have a ride waiting and ready with his name on it, amid reports that he has the German sponsorship lined up to make it happen.

While he hasn't confirmed which team, his new ride is rumored to be the second Meyer Shank Racing seat alongside Marcus Armstrong, who is set to slide from the No. 66 Honda to the No. 60 Honda to replace the McLaren-bound Felix Rosenqvist.
All things considered, a Meyer Shank Racing ride would be a huge win for Schumacher. That ride has been among the most coveted rides in the series this silly season, given that it presents the opportunity to move to this year's Indy 500-winning organization as the replacement for this year's winner of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing", and has been linked to a number of drivers over the past month and a half, most recently Red Bull Formula 1 reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda.
It's no secret that Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing have struggled since moving to three cars in 2022, and while Schumacher is 24th in the standings out of 25 full-time drivers, he has shown flashes of potential across all circuit types in 2026.
Meyer Shank Racing, which have had a technical alliance with Chip Ganassi Racing since 2025, have been among the series' quickest teams at a variety of race tracks, with Armstrong leading on the final lap at Indy before Rosenqvist ultimate won the race.
Rosenqvist has also added two runner-up finishes this season, both behind championship leader Alex Palou, and could have won at Road America if not for a late pit strategy mishap. Likewise, Armstrong was in line to win the same race if not for a late engine failure. Both drivers finished in the top eight in the 2025 championship standings. Rosenqvist is currently eighth while Armstrong's modest 15th is largely due to his three engine failures in four races.
Schumacher, who spent two seasons competing in Formula 1, was expected to shine on the road and street courses, and while he has had a couple of strong qualifying runs and race performances in such events, he has actually been RLL Racing's top oval driver all year.
He started off with a fourth place qualifying effort at Phoenix Raceway before earning Indy 500 Rookie of the Year honors and then scoring a career-best eighth place finish at Nashville Superspeedway. He's 17th in the oval standings, four spots ahead of Rahal and seven ahead of Foster.
He is also historically much better in year number two than year number one, winning the 2018 Formula 3 European Championship after finishing 12th in 2017 and winning the 2020 Formula 2 Championship after finishing 12th in 2019. Additionally, he scored his first Formula 1 points in back-to-back races in 2022 after finishing the 2021 season scoreless.
Other teams that have yet to announce their complete driver lineups for the 2027 season include A.J. Foyt Enterprises, Chip Ganassi Racing, Dale Coyne Racing, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, and Juncos Hollinger Racing.
