Friday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Richmond Raceway was supposed to get underway just a couple hours after the afternoon Cup Series qualifying session wrapped up.
While the weather held out for Cup qualifying, which was actually somewhat surprising considering the forecast and the fact that five Cup Series qualifying sessions have already been rained out on ovals this year, it did not hold out for the Black's Tire 250.
After multiple attempts to get the race started, lightning in the area continued to cause delays, and the rain eventually proved to be too much, resulting in the postponement of Friday's 250-lap race around the four-turn, 0.75-mile (1.207-kilometer) Richmond, Virginia oval.
The race has been rescheduled for Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET. Fox Sports 1 had been set to provide live coverage, but that live coverage has now been shifted to Fox Sports 2. Spire Motorsports' Shane van Gisbergen is set to start on pole, alongside Tricon Garage's Kaden Honeycutt.
NASCAR Truck race at Richmond postponed
Saturday's forecast is iffy as well. According to AccuWeather, there is a 56% chance of showers and an afternoon thunderstorm, which could result in further delays.
As for the Cup Series race, it isn't scheduled to get underway until shortly after 7:00 p.m. ET, when the weather projections appear far more favorable. That race is set to be shown live on USA Network, with Team Penske's Ryan Blaney on pole alongside Joe Gibbs Racing's Chase Briscoe.
This is the lone race weekend at Richmond on the 2026 schedule. The Truck Series returned to the track in 2020 for the first time since 2005, while the Cup Series used to visit twice annually, with the 2025 season marking the first since 1958 with just one Richmond race scheduled. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, which hasn't visited Richmond since 2024, is not in action this weekend.
Should any more postponements be necessary, it is worth noting that there are storms in the forecast for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday as well.
