Aside from yet another DNQ for the Daytona 500 with J.J. Yeley behind the wheel of the No. 44 Chevrolet, it has been a quietly productive year for the non-chartered (open), part-time NASCAR Cup Series team of NY Racing Team, which made their seventh start of the year this past weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
It was Joey Gase who made his third start of the season for the team, just two weeks after Live Fast Motorsports team owner B.J. McLeod switched teams to come over and run the No. 44 car at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Yeley and Gase have both run three races for the team this year, and both have recorded top finishes of 21st place, one shy of the team's all-time best results. The only DNF for the team this year came at EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta Motor Speedway) from Yeley back in February.
NY Racing Team done for 2026?
Yeley's 21st place finish came at a somewhat surprising track in Michigan International Speedway, while Gase's came in the typical wild card race at Talladega. Those 21st place finishes fell just one spot shy of Gase's 20th place finish at Daytona International Speedway in 2024 and the late Greg Biffle's 20th place finish at Atlanta in 2022.
But the No. 44 car is not on the entry list for this weekend's penultimate race of the 2026 season at Martinsville Speedway, and there are no current plans for it to return for next Sunday's season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway either.
As of now, the only part-time team set to run an entry at Homestead is Beard Motorsports, which plan to run the No. 62 Chevrolet for Casey Mears to make his 500th career start. It means that Live Fast Motorsports is also likely done for the year, although Garage 66 still plan to compete this weekend at Martinsville with Josh Bilicki, not Gray Gaulding, in the No. 66 Ford.
23XI Racing also plan on adding an open car next weekend, that being the No. 67 Toyota for Corey Heim, as Heim prepares to take over behind the wheel of the full-time No. 35 Toyota which is presently driven by Riley Herbst.
The Xfinity 500 is set to be broadcast live on NBC from Martinsville Speedway starting at 2:00 p.m. ET this Sunday, November 1. Begin a free trial of fuboTV today if you have not already done so and catch all of the action from the "Paperclip" as the 2026 season winds down!
