Phoenix Raceway remained on the NASCAR Cup Series postseason schedule in 2026, even with Homestead-Miami Speedway having returned as the site of the championship finale for the first time since 2019.
Sunday's 312-lap Freeway Insurance around the four-turn, 1.022-mile (1.645-kilometer) Avondale, Arizona is the earliest postseason race in the track's history, as it had previously hosted the season's penultimate race before taking over as the host site of the championship decider in 2020.
Hendrick Motorsports' Kyle Larson, who won the title at the track both in 2021 and 2025, enters this year's race as the championship leader, with a 49-point lead over regular season champion Denny Hamlin. Larson's lead has grown ever since he unseated Hamlin at the top at Bristol Motor Speedway in mid-September.
Team Penske's Ryan Blaney took the pole position for Sunday's race in Saturday's qualifying session, and teammate Joey Logano joined him on the front row to get the race underway. Larson started 22nd.
