Live Fast Motorsports team owner B.J. McLeod made a surprise appearance behind the wheel of the No. 44 NY Racing Team Chevrolet at Charlotte Motor Speedway two weekends ago, his first for a NASCAR Cup Series team other than his own since 2024.
McLeod finished the race in 33rd place, which was the team's best finish since J.J. Yeley punched above his weight with a 21st place effort, one shy of the team's all-time best, at Michigan International Speedway back in early June.
The team sat out of this past weekend's race at Phoenix Raceway, but they are back on the entry list this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway as they aim to make their seventh start of the year.
NY Racing Team changes drivers for Talladega race
Instead of McLeod, it's Joey Gase who is set to drive the No. 44 car at Talladega this weekend, marking his third start of the season and first since the August regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway, which he finished 36th. He also competed at Talladega in April and finished 30th, after having not previously competed at the track at the Cup level since 2021.
With just four non-chartered (open) cars on the entry list for this weekend's 188-lap race around the four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) high-banked oval in Lincoln, Alabama, none of them will fail to qualify.
The other three are the No. 62 Beard Motorsports Chevrolet of Casey Mears, the No. 66 Garage 66 Ford of Gray Gaulding, and the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet of Daniel Dye.
Talladega Superspeedway's YellaWood 500 is set to be shown live on NBC beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET this Sunday, October 25. Begin a free trial of FuboTV now and don't miss any of the action from the antepenultimate race on the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series Chase postseason schedule!
