IndyCar is set for its annual race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, but unlike in previous seasons, the track will not host this year's season finale.

In fact, since the 11-turn, 2.238-mile (3.602-kilometer) natural terrain road course in Monterey, California was added to the calendar in 2019 as the replacement for Sonoma Raceway, it has been scheduled to host the season finale in all five years. However, it has only done so in three.

In 2020, the race was axed from the calendar due to COVID-19-related restrictions, and in 2021, further restrictions resulted in schedule changes which made the race on the streets of Long Beach, California, which is traditionally run in April, the season finale, making the Laguna Seca race the season's penultimate event.

Laguna Seca returned to host the season finale in both 2022 and 2023, just as it did in 2019, but this year's race is points race number eight of 17 on the calendar.

The track has produced some chaotic races since it returned to the schedule in 2019, with the two most recent winners coming from the sixth row of the grid.

What does this year's Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey have in store?
