IndyCar: 2024 Mid-Ohio qualifying updates, full starting lineup
By Asher Fair
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has been a mainstay on the IndyCar schedule, and it has recently solidfied its spot on the calendar during Independence Day weekend.
This year's Honda Indy 200 marks the halfway point of the 2024 season, as it is the ninth of 17 points races on the calendar.
While it is called the Honda Indy 200, the race around the 13-turn, 2.258-mile (3.634-kilometer) Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course natural terrain road course in Lexington, Ohio is significantly shorter than 200 miles in length.
It is scheduled for 80 laps; prior to 2020, when it hosted two 75-lap races as a part of a doubleheader since so many other tracks were removed from the calendar due to COVID-19-realted restrictions, the race had been a 90-lap race. Its distance had varied in years before that as well, but aside from 2020, it is currently as short as it has been since 1980.
Chip Ganassi Racing's Alex Palou won last year's race from fourth place on the grid, marking his third consecutive victory and fourth win in five races en route to capturing his second championship.
Prior to 2023, no driver had won the race from deeper than the front row since teammate Scott Dixon won from eighth in a 2019 photo finish with Felix Rosenqvist.
