Kevin Harvick flexed his new Ford muscle with Stewart-Haas Racing, winning the pole for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta.

On pole day in Atlanta, Georgia, the Fords flexed their muscles once more. After Kurt Busch carried Stewart-Haas Racing to their first Daytona 500 win, Kevin Harvick powered the team to their first pole position with Ford for Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

Harvick held off the winners of the previous two rounds of qualifying, Ryan Newman and Kyle Busch, to earn the top spot. Newman, who will start second in Sunday’s race at Atlanta, is one pole short of breaking Buddy Baker’s record for most poles at AMS.

The drama early in qualifying surrounded what happened back in the garage. Many teams had a hard time passing through all the aspects of pre-qualifying inspection, leading to a number of cars not making out onto pit road to make an attempt. Drivers including Michael McDowell, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Derrike Cope, Cody Ware, and Cole Whitt never made it out onto the 1.5-mile oval.
