Break out the broom! Kyle Busch has swept the tripleheader weekend at the “Last Great Colosseum” with his Saturday night win in the Monster Energy Cup Series.

The night race at Bristol Motor Speedway is one of the tentpole events for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. It is the last great night race before the full pressure of the series playoffs arrives, but the excitement and frustration of short track racing are always on full display. On Saturday night, Kyle Busch completed the weekend sweep by winning the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race.

Busch, who won both the Truck Series and Xfinity Series races earlier this week at Bristol, continues to be the only driver to ever win in all three national touring divisions of NASCAR in the same weekend. He accomplished this feat once before, also at Bristol, in 2010. It was be Busch’s 40th career Cup Series victory, moving into 18th on the all-time wins list.

Despite the #18 ending the night in Victory Lane, the strongest performance on the night was turned in by young rookie Erik Jones. The driver of the #77 for Furniture Row Racing started on pole and ultimately led the most laps on the night before giving up the lead to the #18. He led more than half the race, with 260 out of 500 laps out front. However, it was the Joe Gibbs Racing duo of Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth who took the wins in the first two stages.

As is typical, Bristol did come out and bite some drivers tonight. A number of Cup veterans, including Kurt Busch and Martin Truex Jr., battled with the black walls of the “Last Great Colosseum”. Chase Elliott, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who are both in the playoffs as of now, also found trouble. On the other hand, some surprising performances in the top 10 at the end of the night included Jones in 2nd and Trevor Bayne in 7th.
