Kasey Kahne’s current ride with Hendrick Motorsports will be going to William Byron in 2018. But Kahne will still be in the NASCAR Cup Series driving for Leavine Family Racing.

In early August, Hendrick Motorsports announced that Kasey Kahne, 37, would no longer be driving the #5 Chevrolet in the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season after six seasons behind the wheel of the car.

Shortly after the team announced that, they announced that William Byron would be taking over Kahne’s seat, effectively leaving Kahne without a full-time ride in the 2018 Cup Series season.

However, it turns out that Kahne will indeed end up having a full-time ride in the Cup Series in 2018, as he is set to drive the #95 Leaving Family Racing Chevrolet currently driven by Michael McDowell, who will may very well no longer be a part of the team next season, as the team is currently just a one-car operation, although it may expand to become a two-car team in 2018.

Here is what Leaving Family Racing co-owner Bob Leavine had to say about McDowell, who has completed more laps and more miles than any other driver so far this season and has been running at the finish more often than any other driver so far this season.

"“Michael (McDowell) is a personal friend of mine and I love him dearly. He spoke to the group this morning and said how much he appreciated the support and being a part of this family. He’s a class act and a professional. He’ll always be a part of this family."

Kahne has been a full-time Cup Series driver since the 2004 season when he drove for Evernham Motorsports, which was renamed to Gillett Evernham Motorsports in 2007 and then to Richard Petty Motorsports in 2010. He drove for the team until near the end of the 2010 season when he made the transition to Team Red Bull, where he raced to finish out the 2010 season as well as in the entire 2011 season.

It was the 2012 season when Kahne came to Hendrick Motorsports and had a career-high 4th place finish in the championship standings. He has driven for the team ever since. He has 18 career Cup Series victories, of which six have come during his tenure as a Hendrick Motorsports driver. He has 92 career top 5 finishes and 173 career top 10 finishes in 495 career Cup Series races.
