In the midst of the national anthem protests in the NFL, NASCAR owners have spoken up, telling the world what would happen if their employees started protesting.

Richard Childress Racing team owner and former driver Richard Childress as well as Richard Petty Motorsports team owner Richard Petty, the all-time NASCAR wins leader who is also known as “The King”, spoke up in regard to what would happen if any members of their team decided to start doing what many NFL players have been doing over the past year or so, particularly this past Sunday: protesting the United States national anthem.

Spoiler alert: it’s much, much different than how the NFL and its owners and have handled it thus far.

Here is what Childress said about the issue.

"“Anybody that works for me should respect the country we live in. So many people gave their lives for it. This is America.”"

He also added that if any of his team members protested the anthem, they would get “a ride on a Greyhound bus”, which essentially means they would be fired.

Here is what Petty said.

"“Anybody that don’t stand up for the anthem oughta be out of the country. Period. What got ’em where they’re at? The United States.”"

These statements from these NASCAR team owners come as a result of the fact that more NFL players than ever before protested the national anthem at Sunday’s games in response to President Donald Trump’s words at a rally on Friday.

Here is what Trump said.

"“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a [expletive] off the field right now. He is fired.'”"

The fuel behind the national anthem protest fire has been the fact that all American citizens are guaranteed Freedom of Speech in the first amendment of the Constitution, which is true. But that doesn’t hold true for just the protesters.

Childress and Petty do, in fact, have the right to fire protesters. Why? Because Freedom of Speech isn’t just Freedom of Speech when it suits your agenda. Freedom of Speech is Freedom of Speech. That applies to all parties.

So whether you like it or not, Childress and Petty are not wrong. Now let’s see if any of the 32 NFL team owners take a stand like Richard Childress and Richard Petty have.
