Formula One boss Chase Carey is keen on adding a street race in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, by 2020. Will this race take place?

If Formula One chief executive officer and executive chairman Chase Carey has his way, a new race could be added to the schedule by the 2020 season, and that new race could be the Danish Grand Prix. The race would take place in the capital of Denmark, which is Copenhagen.

Since taking over as the CEO and executive chairman of the Formula One Group early last year, Carey has expressed his desire to “grow and develop the sport”.

Here is what Carey had to say about the specific matter of adding a race to the Formula One calendar in Copenhagen, Denmark, according to ESPN.

"“We’re excited about the opportunity to explore a potential race here. Copenhagen represents the type of location we think can really provide a great platform. Scandinavia has been a great part of our sport and having local drivers is always a plus.”"

Here is the proposed route for the Danish Grand Prix.

Lars Seire Christensen, a Danish business tycoon who once sponsored current driver Romain Grosjean, a teammate to the sport’s lone Danish driver Kevin Magnussen, also commented on the possibility of Formula One adding the Danish Grand Prix to the schedule. He supports the idea, according to ESPN.

"“They don’t just see it as Copenhagen but as all of Scandinavia which is a potential market for them.”"

To date, there has never been a Formula One race held in Denmark. The most recent Formula One race held in Scandinavia was the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix. That race was held at Scandinavian Raceway, which is now known as Anderstorp Raceway, in Anderstorp, Sweden.

The Danish Grand Prix is certainly not the only race that Liberty Media, the new owners of Formula One, want to add to the schedule. There have been rumors about a potential race in New Jersey in 2019 — the race that was supposed to happen in 2013. There has also been talk about the Dutch Grand Prix potentially returning by 2020. Will any of these races end up happening?
