Jeffrey Earnhardt is set to compete full-time in the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season as the driver of the #00 Chevrolet for StarCom Racing.

Last week, it was confirmed that Jeffrey Earnhardt would drive the #00 Chevrolet for StarCom Racing in the 60th annual Daytona 500 this year. It has also been confirmed that he will drive full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series this season.

Earnhardt, 28, drove full-time in the Cup Series last season for the first time, and he did so as the driver of the #33 Chevrolet for Circle Sport – The Motorsports Group. While it looked like he was going to drive for the team again this season, Circle Sport and The Motorsports Group ended their partnership, thus leaving Earnhardt without a full-time ride.

Last season, Earnhardt drove in 34 of the season’s 36 races. He was replaced by series veteran Boris Said in the two road course races at Sonoma and Watkins Glen.

Earnhardt’s best finishes of the season were career-high 26th place results at Daytona and Indianapolis. His other 26th place finish in his other 24 career Cup Series start came at Charlotte in the 2016 season.

Here is what Earnhardt had to say about the opportunity to drive full-time in the 2018 Cup Series season for StarCom Racing, according to Motorsport.com.

"“I am so appreciative of everyone at StarCom Racing and [sponsor] VRX for having confidence in me and making this a reality. There’s been an Earnhardt driving in the 500 for 39 years so to be able to keep that streak going for a 40th year means a lot to me and I’m sure a lot of Earnhardt fans are going to be happy to hear this news.“I knew Derrike [Cope] casually before but I didn’t realize how much he knows about race cars. He’s got a tremendous amount of technical expertise and speaking with him gave me confidence that StarCom has big plans and I want to be part of that progression.”"

StarCom Racing leased a charter from Richard Childress Racing this offseason since the team shut down the #27 team and downsized from a three-car full-time team to become a two-car full-time team. Paul Menard, who drove the #27 Chevrolet for for the team in each of the last seven seasons, is set to replace Ryan Blaney at Wood Brothers Racing in the #21 Ford. Blaney is set to drive the #12 Ford for Team Penske as the team’s third driver

StarCom Racing’s Cup Series experience is limited to two races. Those two races both took place last season at Kansas and Phoenix. Derrike Cope, the 59-year-old who co-owns the team, drove for the team in those two races and finished in 40th and 32nd place, respectively.
