The 2018 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway is in the books. Who finished where in the second NASCAR Cup Series race of the season?

The second of 36 scheduled races on the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series schedule is in the books. Kevin Harvick, the driver of the #4 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing, won the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia in dominant fashion.

The 325-lap race around the four-turn, 1.54-mile D-shaped oval did go the scheduled distance despite the threat of rain throughout the afternoon and evening. In fact, the race’s start time was delayed by about two and a half hours as a result of rain earlier in the day.

Throughout the race, Harvick was dominant. He led 173 of the race’s 325 laps and lapped all but 12 of the other drivers in the field by the time the race was over. At times, there were only five or six cars on the lead lap.

The race featured 24 lead change among eight different leaders. The seven other leaders besides Harvick were Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano, race polesitter Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, and Ryan Newman.

The race also featured a total of five cautions flag period. Two caution flag periods took place as a result of the first two stages finishing on lap 85 and lap 170, and another caution flag period took place during a scheduled competition caution on lap 30 due to the fact that it had rained earlier in the day.

The two caution flag periods that took place for incidents during the race came out lap 160 and lap 298, respectively. Jimmie Johnson spun out in turn 2, bringing out the caution flag on lap 160, and Trevor Bayne lost an engine, bringing out the caution flag on lap 298.

During the caution flag for Bayne’s engine blowing up, the smoke released from his car created visibility issues for other drivers. As a result of this, Darrell Wallace Jr. ran into the back of Ricky Stenhouse Jr., damaging both cars. Neither driver, however, was a contender to begin with.
