NASCAR: 2018 Auto Club 400 at Fontana qualifying results

Martin Truex Jr. is set to start from the pole position for the second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series race this Sunday at Auto Club Speedway.

Martin Truex Jr. qualified on the pole position for the second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series race, the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. He started from the pole position in last Sunday’s race at ISM Raceway in Avondale, Arizona as well.

Truex Jr. is set to start the 200-lap race around the 2.0-mile, D-shaped oval in his #78 Toyota for Furniture Row Racing alongside Kyle Busch, the driver of the #18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, giving Toyota drivers a front row sweep.

However, the only other Toyota driver who qualified for the race in the top 19 was Erik Jones, who qualified in 4th place in his #20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

The top Chevrolet qualifier for the race was Kyle Larson, who won last year’s Fontana race and has won the last four races on 2.0-mile ovals. He qualified for Sunday’s race in 3rd place in his #42 Chevrolet for Chip Ganassi Racing.

The top Ford qualifier for the race was Joey Logano, who qualified in 6th place in his #22 Ford for Team Penske. Kevin Harvick, who has won each of the last three Cup Series races, qualified in 10th in his #4 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Each of the following notable drivers are set to start the race from 25th position or worse after  their cars failed prequalifying technical inspection: Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer, Aric Almirola, Alex Bowman, William Byron, Daniel Suarez, Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson. A total of 13 cars failed prequalifying technical inspection, leaving only 24 to actually qualify for the race.
