The 2018 STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway is the sixth race of the NASCAR Cup Series season. Who will be driving what car for the race?

The 2018 STP 500 is set to take place this Sunday, March 25th at the four-turn, 0.526 Martinsville Speedway oval in Ridgeway, Virginia. The race is the first short track race of the season, and it is the sixth of 36 races on the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series schedule. This trip to Martinsville is the first of two for the Cup Series this season.

Last year’s Martinsville races were won by Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch. Keselowski won the STP 500 in April, which is this weekend’s race but in March this year, and Busch won the First Data 500 in October in the playoffs.

Last year’s First Data 500, which lasted five laps beyond the scheduled 500-lap distance of the race, was the first race at Martinsville to go into overtime since the April race at the track in the 2012 season did so by lasting 15 laps beyond the scheduled 500-lap distance.

A total of 38 drivers are entered into this year’s STP 500, which is tied for the lowest total in a Martinsville race since the September race at the track in the 1996 season when only 36 drivers competed.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

This race’s total of 38 drivers entered is actually tied for the lowest since that September of 1996 race with last year’s STP 500 when only 38 drivers competed. Last year’s First Data 500 featured 40 drivers, so this race’s total of 38 drivers is down by 5% from the total in the most recent Martinsville race last October.

However, the field size of 38 drivers is actually the second largest size of the 2018 season behind only the 40-driver field in the Daytona 500. It is up by one driver, or 2.70%, from the entry total of 37 drivers in the most recent race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, which took place this past Sunday.
