Martin Truex Jr. is set to start the ninth race of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Toyota Owners 400, from the pole position.

For the fourth time in nine races so far in the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, Martin Truex Jr. is set to start from the pole position in his #78 Toyota for Furniture Row Racing. He is set to do so in tomorrow night’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Virginia.

In addition to his pole qualifying positions at the four-turn, 0.75-mile D-shaped Richmond Raceway oval, Truex Jr. also took the pole position for the races at ISM Raceway in Avondale, Arizona and Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.

Truex Jr. also started from the pole position in the race at Martinsville Speedway in Ridgeway, Virginia thanks to the fact that qualifying was rained out and he led the championship standings at the time of the race.

Chase Elliott qualifying alongside Truex Jr. in his #9 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports as the top qualifier of a Chevrolet car in 2nd place. Joey Logano was the top qualifier of a Ford car in his #22 Ford for Team Penske in 3rd.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

There were two Toyota drivers, two Chevrolet drivers and two Ford drivers who qualified in the top 6 for tomorrow night’s race, with the Toyota drivers taking 1st and 4th place, the Chevrolet drivers taking 2nd and 5th place and the Ford drivers taking 3rd and 6th place.

Perhaps the most shocking storyline of qualifying was the fact that Kyle Busch, who has won the last two NASCAR Cup Series races at Texas Motor Speedway in Forth Worth, Texas and Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, respectively, did not even make it out of the first round of qualifying and is set to start the race in 32nd place out of 38 drivers.
