NASCAR Cup Series: 2018 GEICO 500 at Talladega qualifying results – Kevin Harvick takes pole

Kevin Harvick is set to start the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, the 10th race of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, from the pole position.

Qualifying for the 10th race on the 36-race 2018 NASCAR Cup Series schedule is in the books, and Kevin Harvick is set to start from the pole position for the first time this season in that race in his #4 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Harvick led a 1-2 Stewart-Haas Racing sweep of the front row in qualifying for the 2018 GEICO 500 at the four-turn, 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway oval in Lincoln, Alabama, as he qualified right ahead of his teammate Kurt Busch in his #41 Ford.

Harvick turned a  lap at 49.247 seconds (194.448 miles per hour) around the superspeedway to secure himself that pole position.

Martin Truex Jr. was the highest qualifying Toyota driver in his #78 Toyota for Furniture Row Racing in third place. He and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin are set to share the second row on the starting grid in their #78 and #11 Toyota cars, respectively.

Chase Elliott was the highest qualifying Chevrolet driver in his #9 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports in fifth place. The only other Chevrolet driver who qualified in the top 14 in the race was his teammate Alex Bowman in his #88 Chevrolet. Bowman qualified in 11th.

Rounding out the top 10 from sixth to 10th place were Joe Gibbs Racing’s Erik Jones, Roush Fenway Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer, and Team Penske’s Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski, respectively. David Ragan, who qualified in 12th place in his #38 Ford for Front Row Motorsports, was the pleasant surprise of the qualifying session, as he advanced to the final round and was among the 12 drivers who battled for the pole position.
