NASCAR: Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and others want Eldora races
By Asher Fair
Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and others want both a NASCAR Cup Series race and a NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Eldora Speedway in the near future.
Eldora Speedway has hosted one race each NASCAR Truck Series season since the 2013 season, but it has never hosted a Cup Series race nor an Xfinity Series race.
The Truck Series race that the track, the Eldora Dirt Derby, is scheduled to take place tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET.
The four-turn, 0.5-mile (0.805-kilometer) high-banked, clay-surfaced Eldora Speedway oval in Rossburg, Ohio has never hosted a Cup Series race nor an Xfinity Series race.

However, former Cup Series driver Tony Stewart does not believe that that should always be the case, and several other NASCAR drivers agree with him.
The Stewart-Haas Racing Xfinity Series and Cup Series team co-owner believes that the Cup Series and the Xfinity Series should race at Eldora Speedway in the near future.
Many others in the NASCAR world, including JR Motorsports Xfinity Series team co-owner and former Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., have taken Stewart’s point of view on the matter.
Here is what Stewart had to say about the matter on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, according to USA Today.
"“Maybe one of the days, we’ll get an XFINITY or a Cup race here because we’ve proven you can run the vehicles here, and we’ve proven that the truck drivers that have never been on dirt before can set there and get around this track really well.“If a truck can get around here, an XFINITY car or a Cup car can get around here as well too. So, who knows? Maybe, you know, like I said, I never dreamed we’d have a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race here, but maybe the dream will start now that maybe we can get an Xfinity race here in the future too.“Fans, if you’re out there, think about starting to put some pressure on NASCAR. I think we need to get an XFINITY race, and if we can get an XFINITY race and it was successful, maybe on day we could get a Cup race here to Eldora.“And that’s something I think everybody would love to see. So we need to start putting some pressure on NASCAR to get an XFINITY race here as well.”"
Here is a clip of Stewart discussing the matter.
Here is how Earnhardt Jr. responded.
Several other NASCAR drivers also backed the proposal of the three-time Cup Series champion, including reigning Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr., 2012 Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski and Xfinity Series championship contender Cole Custer.

While there are no NASCAR Cup Series nor Xfinity Series races scheduled to take place at Eldora Speedway in the near future, this year’s Truck Series race at the track is scheduled to take place tonight. Tune in to Fox Sports 1 tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET for the live broadcast of the 2018 Eldora Dirt Derby.
Do you agree with Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr., Brad Keselowski, Cole Custer and probably many others that Eldora Speedway should host a Cup Series race and an Xfinity Series race in the near future, or do you think it would be best if the track hosted only Truck Series races?
