NASCAR Xfinity Series: Kyle Larson wins 2018 Food City 300

Kyle Larson earned his fourth victory of the 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season in the season’s 22nd race, the Food City 300, at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson entered the 22nd race of the 33-race 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, the Food City 300, at Bristol Motor Speedway having driven in five races so far this season. He had won three of them.

After his three-race winning streak ended with a 27th place finish in the Zippo 200 at The Glen at Watkins Glen International two weeks ago, Larson got back into victory lane by winning the 310-lap race at the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) Bristol Motor Speedway oval in Bristol, Tennessee. With four victories in six races, his 2018 Xfinity Series season as come to an end.

Larson won the race, which was scheduled to be a 300-lap race but went into overtime as a result of a late caution flag period, in his #42 Chevrolet by 0.434 seconds over second place finisher Christopher Bell of Joe Gibbs Racing, who was the highest finishing Toyota driver of the race in his #20 Toyota. JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier finished in third in his #7 Chevrolet.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer and Team Penske’s Joey Logano were the highest finishing Ford drivers of the race. They finished in fourth and fifth place in their #00 Ford and #22 Ford, respectively.

Chevrolet drivers finished in each of the eight positions from sixth through 13th place. JR Motorsports teammates Elliott Sadler, Michael Annett and Tyler Reddick finished in sixth, seventh and ninth place in their #1 Chevrolet, #5 Chevrolet and #9 Chevrolet, respectively. GMS Racing’s Chase Elliott finished in eighth in his #23 Chevrolet.

Richard Childress Racing’s Matt Tifft, RSS Racing’s Ryan Sieg, JD Motorsports’ Ross Chastain and Jeremy Clements Racing’s Jeremy Clements rounded out the top 13 in 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th place in their #2 Chevrolet, #39 Chevrolet, #4 Chevrolet and #51 Chevrolet, respectively.

The race featured a total of 12 lead changes among seven drivers. Aside of Larson, who led more laps than anybody else in the field with 202 laps led, six other drivers led at least one of the race. Those drivers were Bell, Custer, Logano, Sadler, Elliott and race polesitter Kyle Busch, who led the first 69 laps of the race before he crashed on lap 70. Larson won both stages one and two.

The race also featured a total of eight caution flag periods for 59 laps. Of those caution flag periods, six took place as a result of on-track incidents and the other two took place as a result of the endings of the race’s first two stages like usual.

A total of 40 drivers started the race, but only 25 finished it. Of the 25 drivers who finished it, only 11 finished it on the lead lap.
