Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton dominates 2018 Singapore Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton earned his seventh victory of the 2018 Formula 1 season in the season’s 15th race, the Singapore Grand Prix, at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport’s Lewis Hamilton earned his seventh victory of the 21-race 2018 Formula 1 season in the season’s 15th race, the Singapore Grand Prix, at Marina Bay Street Circuit to extend his lead over Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in second place in the driver standings.

Hamilton won the 61-lap race around the 23-turn, 3.147-mile (5.065-kilometer) Marina Bay Street Circuit in Marina Bay, Singapore by 8.961 seconds over second place finisher of Max Verstappen of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing after starting from the pole position.

Vettel finished the race in third place. Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen rounded out the top five by finishing in fourth and fifth, respectively. Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo finished in sixth, meaning that all six drivers who qualified in the top six finishing in the same positions in which they started.

McLaren’s Fernando Alonso, Renault Sport’s Carlos Sainz Jr., Alfa Romeo Sauber’s Charles Leclerc and Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place, respectively.

The race featured a total of four lead changes among four drivers. Aside of Hamilton, who led more laps than anybody else in the field with 49 laps led, three drivers led at least one lap of the race. Those drivers were Verstappen, Raikkonen and Ricciardo.

The race also featured one safety car period, which began on lap one and lasted until lap five after Racing Point Force India teammates Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon made contact in turn three right after the race began, sending Ocon into the wall.

Ocon was the only driver of the 20 drivers who started the race who failed to finish it. Of the 19 drivers who finished the race, seven finished it on the lead lap.
